The Sharon Book Club brought literature to life in a whole new way. They joined the Friends of the Sharon Library for
“Books in Bloom” an exhibit of floral arrangements based on their favorite books. Some of the exhibits included a vegetable arrangement in honor of “Peter Rabbit” and floral displays to compliment popular books like “Goodnight Moon”.
I think this is wonderfully creative! What kind of arrangements could you come up with? How about an arrangement of Poppies and grasses to go with “The Wizard of Oz”? Deep dark red roses and moonflowers for “Twilight”? Magnolias for “Gone With the Wind”? The possibilities could be endless. With the holidays coming up, how about an arrangement of pine boughs, holly, and roses to honor the Clement Clarke Moore classic “The Night Before Christmas”?
Take a look at your bookshelves and see what ideas they give you. Get your kids involved as well. What fun would arrangements based on popular kid classics like “Where The Wild Things Are” and “Curious George” be? Sweet Peas and Sugar Snap Peas would be perfect for a “The Princess and the Pea” inspired arrangement. Let your imagination go wild. You can use fresh or dried flowers, grasses, vegetables and fruits, herbs, mushrooms, even cacti! If the kids are involved, try and use kid friendly plants, and when you’re done, make sure your masterpieces are kept out of your pets’ reach.
Books and gardening have a few things in common. They both stimulate your imagination and they can both be magical!
