I am very big on green living. I try hard to make up for all of the power I use to charge my laptop for work, by taking care of the environment in little ways. I know that my garden helps the environment by producing extra amounts of oxygen for the air, but I also like to go beyond that with my garden. That’s why I use my own compost to grow my flowers in. There are many benefits I receive from creating my own compost for my garden.
Well as I’ve mentioned he compost helps me recycle all old food that I would have normally thrown out. I throw everything in there. Pieces of fruit, vegetables, bread- you name it, it goes in. Other than helping the environment, compost actually helps my plants to grow much stronger than typical soil.
I guess that all the nutrients help them to thrive because since I’ve switched over 3 years ago, my plants have never grown quicker or stronger than they do now. Using compost also helps me save money because I don’t have to buy large bags of soil each gardening season.
I build a large bin behind by house that I use to create my compost. It’s about half the size of a large dumpster and has a wooden lid to keep larger animals away, as I don’t mind helping birds and squirrels to a snack. It’s just a little change I made to my gardening lifestyle, but it has made me feel better about the things I do that are not so good for the environment.
